Loren Leonard

I have had the privilege of getting to know Loren Leonard this year. I originally heard about him through Rick D, and took an opportunity to introduce myself to him one day. For those of you who do not know or have not heard of him, Loren is a triathlete who raced with us in the Hawaii 70.3 2008. He has raced in the Kona Ironman World Championships 10 times, and is 79.

He was using the Hawaii 70.3 to try and qualify for the 2008 Kona Ironman. Because he was the only one in his age group, he needed to make the cut-off times, and finish the race. This would provide him with his qualification slot and allow him to race in the World Championships in October 2008.

I am happy to say that Loren met his goal. He finished in 8:25:39 just beating the 8:30 cutoff. He told me some time after the race that he would have finished sooner, but he went a bit off-course on the run.

Loren is a regular fixture at Spectrum Club MB. Please introduce yourself to him if you are given the opportunity, and wish him luck this year in Kona. He is an amazing person, and is truly inspirational.
